We have no time for these petty introductions. Because Lorde is in the building. Can I just say… Lorde wrote Royals when she was 15. FIFTEEN. Like, one-five. Like, I was not wearing eye liner, not plucking my eyebrows, and not shopping anywhere but at American Eagle and Maurices, one-five. I’m just like, dumbstruck. You know what else is cool about her first single, Royals? She gave it away for free. She said when you’re 15 you don’t have any money to buy music and she felt it was wrong to ask people to pay for something right off the bat.
I’ve never really watched much of Lorde on interviews or anything. Honestly, when I think Lorde in my head, all I see are those awkward photos of her and her boyfriend when they were at the beach. Oh come on, I know you know what I’m talking about. Oh, you don’t? Well, now you do. That being said, now that I’ve seen a bit more of her (no pun intended), she seems really freaking cool. And so poised. It’s super refreshing to see someone with her level of fame still have some sense of normalcy. And she’s only 20.
If you’re interested in Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor (wowza, that’s a mouthful), you should check out her interview on 60 Minutes. I think you’ll enjoy it and come away with a lot of respect for this chick.
And if you haven’t snagged her sophomore album, Melodrama that came out only a few months ago, get with it.
And You Must listen To:
- Liability (crushes my soul, honestly)
- Homemade Dynamite (classic Lorde sound, it’s got some good vibes)
